The Kid’s Guide to Service Projects
By: Barbara A. Lewis
In this book, you’ll find over 500 service ideas for young people who want to make a difference. Pick a topic of interest — animals, community development, the environment, friendship, health, hunger, holidays, homeless people, literacy, people with special needs, safety, senior citizens, or something else. The service project ideas range from simple activities (start a crime clue box) to large scale projects that involve whole communities (host a recycling fair). Youth can choose from a variety of topics or use the suggestions as springboards for their own ideas.
The suggestions in this book can be altered, simplified or enhanced to fit your needs. There are also sections entitled “Ten steps to successful service projects” and “Service project how-tos”. Step-by-step instructions on how to get started on and carry out a project, plus unique fund-raising ideas like “Cow-pie Bingo”, are included. Also included are helpful suggestions on creating press releases, flyers, public service announcements, and more. This is an excellent resource for anyone working with youth and young adults.
