Rob Ross of the Paleontological Research Institution and CCE's Marcellus Team answers this question for the Cornell Daily Sun: Given that fracking involves competing interests, where do you believe the public can turn for an impartial evaluation? Is such an evaluation even possible? Read the published answer here and the full answer here.
Greenhouse Gas Footprint of Natural Gas - In
the Spring of 2011 an article entitled, “Methane and the greenhouse gas
footprint of natural gas from shale formations,” by Howarth R.,
Santoro T., and Ingraffea A. appeared in Climatic Change.
In early 2012 there will be two articles published in Climate Change
Letters. One will be a commentary on the Howarth, Santoro, and
Ingraffea article written by L. Cathles and a response to that from R.
Howarth. These articles are now up and can be found by clicking here (Cathles) and here (Howarth).

Compulsory Integration Video - Almost 150 people attended an information session at the Dryden Fire Hall on November 14th to hear a panel of experts discuss Compulsory Integration, a provision of New York State’s mining law that allows energy companies to remove natural gas from properties although the landowner has not signed a drilling lease. That presentation and the question-and-answer period that followed were videotaped by Cris McConkey and now can be accessed online, along with handouts from the session and other resources, at http://ccetompkins.org/gaslibrary. The public information session was presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County in cooperation with Fleased. (November 14, 2011)
Penn State Public Broadcasting new website: Exploreshale.org
Website is designed to enhance public understanding of the basic science surrounding the Marcellus Shale by providing a fact-based interactive learning experience. Site is a public service media project from Penn State Public Broadcasting.
Readers will note that the reports differ significantly in their conclusions. At Cornell, we support rigorous intellectual discourse and understand the value of different perspectives, which is an important part of scholarship. This website strives to bring relevant information to the public without taking a side in the controversial fracking debate.
