Opening Doors: A Personal and Professional Journey
A foundational personal and professional education opportunity that provides foundational information for creating deeper understanding and awareness on issues of diversity. "Strengthening Programs to Reach Diverse Audiences" is an excellent curriculum which was developed by the CYFERNet funded Diversity Project at the University of Florida. It is a comprehensive resource for planning and implementing culturally relevant and responsive programs. The six unit curriculum includes: 1) understanding diversity to design programs; 2) planning programs to break down cultural barriers; 3) marketing programs to diverse audiences; 4) maximizing assets to diverse communities to enhance program; 5) effective instruction for diverse audiences; and 6) working with diverse audiences over time. The National Virtual Diversity Center The Diversity Across Higher Education Community of Practice is designed as an interconnected web of collaboration linking all land-grant institutions’ diversity efforts. The intention of the site is to move the Extension System forward in the creation of effective pluralistic organizations by sharing program resource successes and challenges in addressing the complex issues of diversity. The content of the Center is updated monthly. All Extension professionals are encouraged to contribute their success stories, curriculum resources, and diversity challenges to be posted on the site. All curriculum submissions go through a peer-review process. Extension professional may also network with colleagues nationwide on diversity issues through the diversity forum.
