Association

  • Our hours are 8:30am to 4:30pm daily from Sept. 1 through June 30.
  • Cornell Cooperative Extension offices will be closed on the following days:
    • Nov. 11 - Veterans Day
    • Nov. 27 & 28 - Thanksgiving holiday
    • Dec. 24(pm), 25, & 26 - Christmas holiday
    • Jan. 1, 2009 - New Year's Day
  • The annual meeting of the board of directors of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County will be November 19 at the Partridge Berry Inn in Watertown. A meet and greet begins at 6:15 p.m. with the meeting and dinner starting at 7:00 p.m. Dinner will be a grand buffet featuring locally produced foods including beef stroganoff, roast pork, and macaroni and cheese. The cost is $20; reservations are required by November 10.

Agriculture and Natural Resources

  • Marketing Your Product for Profit, an intensive series of workshops for entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals, will be held twice weekly beginning October 27. Link: NCPR interview highlights new marketing course for entrepreneurs (Call Molly Ames at 315-788-8450 for more information.)
  • NNY Beef Week discussion and farm tour by Dr. Mike Baker of Cornell University - Nov. 6
  • Vegetable Growers Discussion Group monthly meeting - Nov. 17.
  • Sheep and small ruminant workshop - Nov. 18.
  • Agribusiness roundtable discussion, followed by feed dealer meeting - Nov. 19.
  • Veterinarian training for organic livestock care will be Nov. 19.
  • Nutrient Management Guidelines will be held Nov. 19 & 20.
  • Making Custom Services Work for You - Dec. 4.
  • Pro-Dairy Winter Dairy Management seminar - Jan. 15.

4-H Camp Wabasso

The summer youth camping season is now complete.

  • Information regarding the 2009 camping season will be posted soon.

4-H Youth Development

  • 4-H Friday, a fun night with activities for kids, will be held Nov. 21.
  • Teens who want to learn all about babysitting may attend our Babysitting Basics course, November 1 and 2.
  • Dog-loving kids are welcome to join the Furry Friends 4-H Dog Club. Next meeting is Nov. 6.
  • Those same dog-loving kids are invited to join the 4-H Dog Bowl competition, meeting Nov. 5, 12, Dec. 3, and 10.
  • 4-H Shooting Sports/Outdoor Advantures Club is a new club for youth ages 9 through 19. Held Nov. 17 and Dec. 15 at GanderMtn, Watertown.
  • Advancing Youth Development programs:
    • AYD Revised -- November 5-7 -- 10-3
    • AYD Basics -- December 4 -- 8:30-12:00
    • AYD Basics -- March 6, 2009 -- 8:30-12:00
    • AYD Strengthening Organizations -- April 3, 2009 -- 10-3
    • AYD Revised -- May 13-15, 2009 -- 10-3 

    Note:  All AYD classes will be held at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County.

Fort Drum Programs

  • We provide monthly stress and anger management workshops for soldiers and their families. Check the calendar for dates and times.
  • Fort Drum/Watertown Welcome Tours for military families new to the area will be held Nov. 11 & 25.
  • The Army Family Team Building Level 1 training will be held Nov. 12 & 13.
  • The Middle Years parenting workshop for military families will be held Nov. 3, 10, 17, and 24 at Fort Drum.
  • Military families may attend new spouses and medical information orientations on Nov. 10 & 24.
  • Military retirees and family members of military personnel may be interested in Employment Readiness programs Employment Orientation, Real Estate, and Resume Writing workshops held throughout November on post.

Nutrition and Health

  • Our monthly eating disorder network video conference is a support group for families of children with eating disorders. The next are scheduled for Nov. 18 and Dec. 16.

Parenting

  • Positive Discipline workshops will be held in November.
  • The Watertown Parents as Partners monthly meeting for parents of Watertown students will meet Nov. 12.
  • The Magic Years, the Middle Years, and Challenges and Joys of Adolescents parenting classes will all begin in January '09.
  • Parenting After Separation or Divorce will be held Dec. 3 & 10.
  • The Middle Years parenting workshop for military families will be held Nov. 3, 10, 17, and 24 at Fort Drum.

General Educational Programs:

  • Save Energy, Save Dollars energy conservation programs will be held throughout November. A packet of energy-saving products worth $15 will be given to every participating family.
  • Marketing Your Product for Profit, an intensive series of workshops for entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals, will be held twice weekly beginning on October 27.
  • The monthly AARP Defensive Driving Course is now over for the year. We will announce the 2009 program dates.
