The invasive Hemlock Woolly Adelgid has been confirmed, for the second time in a decade, in the Rochester area. The insect was first collected in the Rochester area in 1999 and the infested plants were rouged shortly thereafter. Site monitoring indicates the insect was eliminated from the County at that time. Both that infestation and the current one were likely introduced with hemlock brought from nurseries where the insect is well established. Read more...

Assistance is available through the USDA to local farmers in Monroe, Genesee, Niagara, and Orleans Counties for damages and losses caused by drought that occurred May 1, 2007 and continuing.
