What is the Oswego River Basin?
The Oswego River Basin is located in Central New York. It drains a total area of 5,122 square miles into Lake Ontario. The area of the basin is larger than the states of Rhode Island and Delaware combined. The basin is made up of many smaller, local watersheds.
What is a Watershed?
A watershed is the area of land that catches rain and snow and drains or seeps into a marsh, stream, river, lake or groundwater. Everyone, from the upland farmer to the lakeside landowner, lives in a watershed. Thus, everyone’s actions affect the quality and quantity of the water resource.
