Skaneateles Lake Watershed Agricultural Program
The Skaneateles Lake Watershed Agricultural program (SLWAP) is designed to keep pollutants from running off farms into the lake's tributaries. The SLWAP program was initiated in 1994 when the City formed a partnership with the County Soil and Water Conservation Districts, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
The objective of the program is to carry out voluntary, cost-effective Whole Farm Planning programs to reduce the risk of soil erosion and water pollution from agricultural land. Through March 2007, Whole Farm plans have been adopted by 37 farms around the watershed.
