Greenhouse, Nursery, Turf

More than 45 greenhouses growing bedding and other traditional crops are located in the county with over 1,000,000 square feet under glass or plastic cover. Approximately 2,500 acres of sod are produced in the black dirt region. Wholesale and retail nurseries grow and sell trees, shrubs, and perennial flowers. Christmas tree farms provide "You Cut" products for residents. There is a marked trend toward "farm entertainment" as a marketing niche for horticultural enterprises. Over 200 professional businesses offer landscaping services.
