Habitats Location: Arnot Forest Lodge - On Jackson Hollow Road
(Schuyler County Route 13) 1 mile north of NYS Route 224 in Van Etten,

are invited to a field day to visit two new wildlife and forestry
demonstration areas at the Cornell University Arnot Forest. The intent
of this field day is to show examples of amphibian habitat structures
that landowners can construct, examples of five different forest management
practices, and discuss the benefits of integrating forest and wildlife
management. The demonstration areas illustrate conservation techniques
for woodland amphibians, wildlife, and the application of different

Share the Adventure: Exploring Fire Science,
the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Department of the Interior, will
host "Share the Adventure: Exploring Fire Science." This one-hour
interactive satellite broadcast for classrooms across America is geared
for the middle-school audience, but would be of interest to all ages.
It is correlated to National Science Education Standards, standard
F: science in personal and social perspectives. A free educator's
guide and classroom materials will accompany the program. The program
will address how and why fires start, develop and spread; the role
of fire in ecosystems; fire behavior; and fire management. Fire experts

Vegetable Season Extension at Mountain Dell Farm,
Delaware County (2:00-4:00 PM). Does the growing season wind down
after a hard frost? No way! Some growers say you make more by staying
late than by starting early. Learn how to market fresh, healthy, hardy,
high-value crops into the month of December, even from a less than
favorable microclimate. Mark Dunau and Lisa Wujnovich have been growing
vegetables for upscale Manhattan restaurants for a dozen years from
their hillside farm in Delaware County. They have put together a system
that allows them to deliver from June 1 through mid December that
is based on hardy crops, precise timing, and row covers. Mark will
be sharing his knowledge and leading a tour of the fields. This is
a great opportunity to see the proven techniques of expert growers

Center, NY. John is a truck farmer selling at local markets and the
green market in New York City. Participants will be shown how to use
the equipment on the Mobile Seed Processing Unit and a tour of the
Gorzynski Farm will be given. The emphasis will be on dry processing.
There will be the opportunity for local farmers to use the unit and
clean their own seed (reasonable quantities, please) by appointment

Description: This workshop is for farm operators of all types who have considered the Internet for marketing products and promoting their farm. Presenters will cover basic web page development, expenses, advantages and disadvantages of web site maintenance, and provide examples of how other farms are using Internet web pages for marketing and public relations. Participants will gain enough basic knowledge to begin creating a web site and understand the financial and technical requirements for web site development.
This workshop is strongly recommended for farms who intend to apply for a special round of mini-grants available for Schuyler County farm operators. It is hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schuyler County, SCOPED - Schuyler County Partnership for Economic Development, and the CCE-SCNY Agriculture Team.

2002 NYS Dry Bean Industry Advisory Committee Meeting,
