To make the body, cut a paper pattern measuring 7" from the tip of the fish's nose to the end of the tail and 4.5" wide. Make a separate pattern piece for the fin (see illustration). Using the pattern, cut two bodies from felt and decorate one side of each felt piece with tape, rickrack, etc., using your own originality. Place the decorated sides of the two body pieces together, edges even. Stitch the two felt pieces together with a needle and thread or sewing machine, leaving an unsewn edge at the tail. As you sew, insert a fin between the peices of felt at the fish's top. Now turn the bag rightside-out and fill the bag half full of beans. Stitch across the tail and fringe the tail up to the stitching. |
