Family Fun Workshops
Wacky Container Gardens
Ever wondered if flowers will grow in a shoe, or a hat, or how about an upside down lampshade? Well, kids try it out during this wild and crazy workshop. Potting soil flies as kids fill all sorts of containers with their own little garden of summer flowers. Families can bring their own containers from home or can choose from our crazy selection. Either way, kids take away a funky new container garden to enjoy all summer long.
Music in the Garden
Music is all around us, even in the Garden. During this Family Fun Workshop, kids and parents come ready to make some music-with plants, of course! We make rain sticks that are filled with rice, beans, corn, and all kinds of dried seeds, and those rain sticks are decorated to the max. Kids also make panpipes from Japanese knotweed that can really hold a tune. By the end of the workshop, kids are ready to show-off their new found musical talents from the Garden during a short performance for their parents.
Midsummer Fairy Garden
In one of the highlights of the summer, kids come to the Garden to create a fairy world of their own. Children and families make colorful fairy wings, decorate fairy wands, and even learn how to make unique blends of all-natural fairy dust to sprinkle around the garden. In addition to making wings, wands, and fairy dust to take home, kids get to leave something at the Children's Garden to welcome the fairies to the human world. Children and parents spread out across the Garden to find the perfect place for their fairy house. Using bark, sticks, leaves, and anything from nature, kids carefully and meticulously construct tiny fairy houses all across the Garden to welcome the summer fairies.
