About This Project This
course and resources were developed through a grant from the Growing
New Farmers Consortium out of the New England Small Farm institute by
Cornell Cooperative Extension
(CCE) of Washington County in cooperation with CCE
of Warren County, CCE
of Saratoga County, CCE
Hamilton County, Crandall Public
Library in Glens Falls, NY and the Southern
Adirondack Library System (SALS). Additional funding for the project
also came from the Cornell Small
Farms Program. and the Agricultural Workforce Certification Program
through New York State Department
of Agriculture and Markets.
The project originally involved development of an agricultural lending library based at Crandall Public Library, our New York State Library System designated regional library, with some resources also located in the additional 32 libraries in SALS. Two librarians from Cornell's Mann Library lead a discussion on agricultural resources at the SALS librarians' monthly meeting to raise their awareness to what agricultural resources are available both locally and electronically. The workshops, which are the basis for the online course, were then held at the library over the winter with educators and farmers speaking at each meeting. Having the meetings at the library encouraged participants to use the library resources which could then be returned to any SALS library. We then had follow up meetings based on the main interests and needs of the participants. The workshops were well received and many new connections were made for the participants in the form of other exploring farmers, local successful farmers and agricultural service providers or educators. Thank you to everyone who made this project possible. Agriculture is a wonderful field to work in because of the great people. |
