News Release Date: July 1, 2003 Phone: 518-746-2560 VITA Volunteers Needed in Washington CountyTrain to become a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteer and prepare tax returns for low-income families in Washington County. Help individuals and families claim their Earned Income Tax Credit and boost their yearly income by up to 30 percent. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) offers free preparation of federal and state income tax returns to low-income and limited resource families. This project is sponsored by Washington County Economic Opportunity Council, Head Start, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Washington County Department of Social Services, Office for the Aging, AARP, and the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program in Washington County. You do not have to be a professional tax preparer to participate. Volunteers will attend a special training on income tax preparation that will be held in early fall.
