Candle Wax and Paraffin Stains

These instructions are for removing candle wax or paraffin from a washable fabric.

First use a dull knife to remove surface wax. To make removal easier, hold a plastic bag of ice against the wax before scraping.

Then place the fabric between two clean white blotting materials, such as paper towels, facial tissues or absorbent cotton fabric. Press blotting material with a warm iron. Change the blotters as they begin to absorb the melted wax.

When no more wax is coming off onto the blotters, sponge the stained area with a dry cleaning solvent or spot remover, such as Carbona, Energine, or K2R. They are available in grocery and drug stores. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions when using these solvents.

Rinse well and launder the fabric using a bleach that is appropriate for the fabric.

Before any stain removal process is started, you must remember that every stain removal method is not suitable for every fabric. Be sure to test each stain removal product in an inconspicuous spot such as a seam allowance.
