Don't miss this unique opportunity to see first hand renewable energy and green building practices at work in our area. Green building involves designing, constructing or renovating homes, schools, workplaces and other structures for high performance, human health and environmental sustainability. This year's Green Building Open House features 27 homes in Tompkins, Tioga and Schuyler Counties. Homeowners and/or green building professionals will be on site to answer questions and describe their green building features - such as energy efficient appliances, passive solar design, photovoltaics, wind power, salvaged and non-toxic building materials, local lumber, strawbale construction and more.

Our local 2008 Tour has expanded to two days, with half of the homes open on Saturday, and half on Sunday. Visitors may view participating sites between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please visit sites only on the days that the owners have agreed to be open!

Local sites, photos, descriptions and maps of the tour sites are in the UPDATED 10/1/08 2008 Green Building Open House Guide (3.12 MN PDF) which is also available in hardcopy on 100% recycled paper for $1 suggested donation at Tompkins County Cooperative Extension. Or download a Short Guide (746K PDF) with maps and addresses only. These sites -- and others that have registered after the 2008 Guide was printed, are listed on the NESEA website at http://www.nesea.org/.
