Do you care about someone with an

EATING DISORDER?

Helping parents, families, and loved ones provide positive support to those with Disordered Eating

Who should attend the Parent Partner Program?
Parents, family, and loved ones of those with disordered eating.

What does the program offer?
An opportunity to meet with professionals from the fields of medicine, nutrition, and mental health for education and support.

Two 3-hour sessions inform participants about:

  • What eating disorders are and what they are not
  • Being a positive role model and knowing when and how to help
  • Physical/medical aspects of eating disorders
  • Looking at disordered eating from the perspective of the person struggling with the eating disorder
  • Stages of eating disorder treatment and recovery
  • Recognizing cultural and media messages about body image
  • Important facts about nutrition, optimal vs. dysfunctional eating, and health restoration

What is the cost?
There is a small fee (see registration form). However, the program is open to all regardless of ability to pay.

Why participate?
Successful treatment programs for people with eating disorders increasingly include a parent and family education program.

Eating Disorder Recovery Center (EDRC) of Western New York
The Eating Disorders Recovery Center of Western New York (EDRCWNY) is one of three centers supported by the New York State Department of Health. The centers form an integrated network of specialists that provides a full range of comprehensive services for individuals with eating disorders and their families. Parenting a Child with an Eating Disorder is an educational video that tells the candid, compassionate and gripping story of Mary Ellen and Dan Clausen, parents of two girls who struggle with eating disorders. Interviewed by Cris Haltom, Ph.D., and based on their own experiences, the Clausens offer support, empathy and helpful ideas to parents, grandparents, and caretakers of those with eating disorders.
